About the owners
|
Rudeles is a family business which was founded to build upon the passion and labour of the owners’ fathers and grandfathers and develop the wine culture which had almost disappeared in this particular area. Rudeles has four owners and all of them have strong ties to Peñalba:
- Antonio Ruperez was born in the village and still lives there with his son, Sergio (the company’s only full-time employee) who takes day-today care of the vineyards.
- Javier Ruperez – his parents were born in the village and still live there; he is married to Juan Martin’s sister.
- Juan Martín del Hoyo – his parents were born in Peñalba and moved away at 18.
- Marcos Espinel – born and bred in Peñalba, he now lives just eight kilometers away in San Esteban, where he is a butcher.
The name Rudeles comes from the first letters of the names of the four owners: Ruperez, del Hoyo and Espinel.
From the beginning, we have tried to make the most of our biggest asset, our 90-year old vineyards, and to respect our terroir by producing interesting award winning wines. To achieve this, we train the vines carefully so that they can adapting ourselves to climate using modern viticultural and winemaking technologies whilst respecting the special characteristics of our vineyards. |
